For a while I was Not liking the new Valentino people (that's what I call them, but they're actually Pier Paolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri). They were making trendy, Balmain-like stuff that was not Valentino at all, and I imagined him tormented at night seeing where his name is going. Especially the spring 2010 couture.
BUT now they're wonderful. This last couture collection was an argument in itself for couture to stick around.
Sometimes I look at a couture collection and think "What makes this couture? Why does it deserve that moniker? This could be ready-to-wear."But this collection was so couture my clothes felt like hobos.
It was their ready-to-wear collection taken to a new level. The sheer amount of beading, pleats, and dreams blew me away. The hair was sleek and powerful, yet sweet, like a little Swedish girl who is secretly an FBI agent. The makeup also added to the look. One of the marks of a wonderful collection is when the whole picture works. The runway, makeup, hair, models, music, clothes- everything, work together and you feel like the collection is it's own world or school of thought. Looking at the way the clothes moved, flowy and substantial, and the light yet heavy hang of the clothes felt luxurious and expensive. I bet the collection even smelled like quality.
The best way to sum up the personality of this collection is that of a person who is sensitive, but you can still tell they don't take crap from anybody.
