Stephen Daiter Gallery has an exhibition called After a Fashion: Classic, Humorous, Subversive... Ummm, I went. To? It?
They had an Irving Penn portrait of Truman Capote and it was like actually seeing the Mona Lisa, except a bit better. There was a Helmut Newton photo of Paloma Picasso, and a plethora of Victor Skrebneski, and also this one of a Chanel beauty ad with blood on it by Robert Heinecken (never heard of him and feeling guilty). And a lot of other people too, of course.
It was a wonderful exhibit and the space was pretty and the guy who ran it was cool. And if I knew more about gallery critiquing I would say better stuff.
Basically, the show was inspiring because when I walk around every day thinking about fashion all the time it seems like there are no people who share it with me because I don't see anyone around me doing the same thing. But when I go to a gallery like this it gives me hope that there are other people out there who think like I do.
