Oh, I get it now.

I've never understood what the big deal is about Cecil Beaton. Until I read Allure by Diana Vreeland (she was so cool!). She said that his pictures have "opalescence-the quality emanating from an opal, the feeling of being inside an opal." I get it now. 
Exhibit A: Hoyningen-Huene. Great. 
Exhibit B: Beaton. Don't you see the light/life/glow/energy coming out of it?!

Another Example:
 Horst. Still great.

Side note: Beaton. Taken in the 30's. Doesn't it look so... contemporary?
