I was looking through the events pictures on Style.com, and I saw these two people.

And one was like, "Omg look how daring and unique I am. I'm wearing the Louis Vuitton spring 2011, and my entire leg is showing. If I were in the street I'd be on a street style blog."

And the other one was like, "I'm elegant, and I put these clothes on because of it."
I like the second one. She doesn't have to rely on brands, recognition, or "daring." Which is more daring anyway.
This is going off of my earlier post about how people seem to dress now. Neither of these women are the most fashion victim-y or elegant people, I just happened to pick them because they were on the same slideshow and struck me.
I'm just really sick of people wearing fashion instead having style, dressing for the sole purpose of being on a street style blog, being defined by the clothes they wear and how skinny they are which they just ooze in their attitudes, mistaking wearing a full runway look as style, and mistaking ludicrous outfits for uniqueness.
Just because something is unique doesn't mean it's good. And there is such a thing as looking ridiculous. Be out there, wear crazy stuff, but look good doing it. Wearing something "different" does not replace style, elegance, or chicness. They seem to like challenging normal perceptions of beauty just because they can. There's a place for that, a wonderful place, but not everyone needs to do it. People are even starting to do this thing where they shame people for not dressing like Lady Gaga because they're "scared conformists." Wearing things that require one to be "brave" to wear does not mean style. There's room in this world for edgy and just beautiful, or even both.
Ms. Sozzani writes about this here. I'm glad she exists.

Anna, you are a serial fashion victim.
"I like beautiful, well-cut clothes, women with a sense of elegance, and who don't just dress up "
-Bill Cunningham
* yes, I know this was very similar to an earlier post I did. I just wanted to see if I could write the same thing slightly differently, and stress different parts of it, and how different it would be when I wrote it a few months later and in a different mood.
