You know how there are those people sometimes who aren't really wearing anything super put together or calculated, but somehow are super put together and calculated? Maybe not, that might only make sense in my head. Anyway, those people put together looks that I'm starting to call "very distinctly made of separates." These looks almost tell the story of how the wearer looked in the closet and picked out separates they loved and put them all together (like that Marc Jacobs quote where he said take any pieces and put them together like they are classics/basics).

It's when the person is definitely not being worn by their clothes, but has a certain detachment from them; like they made the decision to wear them that morning, knows they look good, and are moving on. When I see this I'm always reminded of how clothes are actually just fabric that is hanging on our bodies. That sounds obvious, but when you really think about it, the only thing that separates us from each other is material that wraps around our frames.
